ADHD

  • ADHD

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a developmental disorder that affects a person's behavior. It's characterized by a persistent pattern of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity that makes it difficult to function in daily life.

Symptoms of ADHD include:

  • Inattention: Difficulty paying attention, staying on task, or being organized
  • Hyperactivity: Being constantly moving or restless, fidgeting, tapping, or talking too much
  • Impulsivity: Acting without thinking, interrupting others, or having difficulty with self-control

ADHD is a chronic disorder that can impact many aspects of life, including school, work, and social relationships. It can also lead to poor self-esteem and social function.

ADHD is often diagnosed in children before the age of 12, but it can also be diagnosed later in childhood or even in adulthood. The exact cause of ADHD is unknown, but research suggests that it's genetic. Other factors that may increase the risk of ADHD include being born early, exposure to environmental toxins, or maternal drug use during pregnancy.
